How to make bokeh effect with Christmas lights! #SMPhotolab

In this article, you will find out how to make fantastic bokeh effect with Christmas lights!

During the Christmas period our homes and cities are decorated with lots of colored lights.
Have you ever thought of an original and fun way to use them in your photos?

There are endless possibilities to make tons of bokeh effect wallpapers with different shapes and colors!

This is an example of a background that I made following a few simple steps.

I will guide you step by step to the realization of this kind of photo!

You will need:

1.Cardboard (better if dark in color)
2.Scissors
3.Pencil or pen
4.Cutter
5.Scotch tape

Step 1

Cut out a long strip of cardboard to be able to completely wrap your lens.
Attach the two ends with tape to get a ring as in the photo.

Step 2

With a pencil, on another piece of construction paper, draw a circle with a diameter slightly larger than that of your lens.
You can help yourself by following the outline of the lens.
It doesn’t have to be a perfect circle as long as it’s the right size. Cut out the circle with scissors.

Step 3

Draw a rectangle on the circle as in the photo, and cut it with the help of a cutter.

Step 4)

Attach the circle obtained with the tape to the ring made previously.

Step 5)

With the remaining cardboard cut out squares and draw any shape you want on them.
Keep in mind that this will be the shape of your lights in the bokeh!
Once drawn, cut them out with the cutter.
Remember that their size must be smaller than that of the rectangle made previously on the circle.
Again, you don’t have to be super precise to get a good result.

Once you’ve followed these steps, all you have to do is insert the ring into the lens and keep your shapes close at hand.

Set the camera to AV and select the lowest value possible.
Then set the ISO to AUTO.

Position yourself in front of the Christmas lights, focusing on the subject you prefer, and place one of the shapes you made in front of the lens.

Voilá! You got a bokeh effect photo with Christmas lights! Easy right?

The possibilities are truly endless. These are all my backgrounds with the three shapes I made.
